Homemade Whipped Body Butter

My mom is visiting from New Mexico so I whipped up (literally) a batch of homemade body butter for her to bring home with her. The air is very dry in NM so I think her skin will love this. It’s so fun to make and it feels fantastic. I use shae butter, cocoa butter, almond oil, and coconut oil – then I add essential oils for scent. In this batch I used bergamot oil (smells sweet and citrus-y, alleviates anxiety and stress) and lavender oil (smells floral, relaxes and calms).

First I slowly melt 1/2 cup of everything except the essential oils in a double boiler. Once it’s all melted and mixed together I let it cool for about 15 minutes, then I add about 30 drops of essential oils. I mix it with a spoon to move the essential oils around, then I refrigerate it for about an hour (more for larger batches). The trick is to get it to just the right consistency before blending – not too solid but not liquid either. Once it’s the right consistency, I whip it with my hand mixer and ~voila~ Body Butter! Sometimes this takes a little experimentation with refrigeration but ultimately I end up with a fluffy creamy butter-like body moisturizer which I use almost daily. 🙂
