First Lightning Capture

There was a storm the other day and I’ve been wanting to try to catch lightning with my camera, so I set up the tripod on the back porch and played the waiting game. It was kind of like fishing. In fact, there was a huuuuuuuge burst of gorgeous light centered right in my camera frame at one point, but it was between shots and I completely missed it. That huge burst is what motivated me to try this again next opportunity I get.

Here’s what I did get. Not very impressive, I know, but I wanted to document my first lightning captures anyway:

Here’s the second capture – it was a nice burst but way off to the left side of my frame.

Lightning - second capture

The fun part about photographing lightning is that it’s so random and time-sensitive. I look forward to my next lightning shoot!

  1. Aw, thanks! It was fun and challenging. It took me a while to figure out what settings to put the camera on, and by then the storm had calmed down quite a bit. I’m hoping for some better shots next time. But thank you for the compliments! 🙂
