Four years ago we spent Valentine’s Day at the Winter Park Hospital. James wrecked the scooter in our “How to Drive a Scooter” class and injured his knee. The first photo was taken from the ER; they put a brace on but we of course had no idea what was wrong with it at that point. It actually only hurt when he tried to stand up, but when sitting down he felt no pain at all.
After hours of waiting and then finally x-rays, we learned he actually shattered his knee (orthopedic surgeon called it “kibbles and bits”). 🙁
Unfortunately, this resulted in reconstructive surgery (a plate and 6 pins) followed by several months of recovery and rehabilitation.
After about a month he was able to start putting weight on that leg. The doctor issued him a walker, which I added a few mods to. 🙂
Needless to say, James is no longer interested in scootering. He ended up selling his brand-new Midnight Blue Vespa 150LX. It was a beautiful scooter.
So it was a pretty shitty Valentine’s Day, but the good news is we’ve had lots of great ones since then.
Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! <3
