Gorda’s First Checkup

Gorda had her first vet visit (in Lake Mary) yesterday!

She weighed in at 55.4 pounds – WOW! She weighs 1 lb. more than Jacob! The vet said she’s kind of on the chunky side and she’d like us to increase her activity to try to reduce about 5 lbs.

It was a long wait, but Gorda was very patient and never got anxious or bored. Jacob, on the other hand, had ants in his pants and couldn’t sit still for very long, so I let him go look at the animals inside PetSmart while we waited.

Gorda let out a big stink and we had to relocate to the hallway so the humans could breathe. This is a normal bulldog thing, but will take some getting used to. :-/

Gorda sat nice and still while the vet listened to her heart:

She is very healthy, but has a double ear infection so we’re treating her with ear drops twice a day for two weeks. The doc taught us how to clean her ears (ew), which we’ll be doing twice a week at first. Our follow-up appointment is in two weeks, let’s hope her ears are cleared up by then! Several other tests were performed and everything came back great, so we know aside from the ears she’s a healthy pup!

While Gorda was finishing up her two-hour vet visit, Jacob picked out a name tag for her. Gorda was fantastic in PetSmart – she would follow us everywhere and sit down if we stopped in any one spot for long. She let us try Halloween costumes on her, and sat patiently while we watched the laser machine engrave her new tag.

Overall I was a little nervous about the vet visit – wasn’t sure how Gorda would tolerate all the poking and prodding (and other animals walking around), but she did absolutely fantastic! She’s such a sweet dog, and very mellow so I don’t anticipate ever having problems taking her in public. The boys and I are so happy to have Gorda; she’s not the most low-maintenance dog on the planet (wrinkles require constant cleaning!) and certainly not the most lady-like (toots regularly and burps after eating), but she has the best personality and genuinely loves all people.
