House of Hope Run Around the Pines 5k
2/18/12 Â Winter Park, FL
This was my first 5k race. I finished in 40:29 with a 13:01 pace. I went alone, hence the stupid alone-pose for the camera.  In hindsight, I wish I would have asked someone to come with me – even if only to cheer me on. A 5k doesn’t seem like much but it was a big accomplishment to me personally.
I met this fantastic woman, Deborah Johnson, about 2 miles into the race. It was her first 5k too and we seemed to be at a similar pace so we sort of encouraged each other through the last mile. She was there with her church group but they all ran faster than her and finished earlier. Below are some photos of Deborah and I finishing together. I wish we’d exchanged contact information and stayed in touch, she was a really nice woman.
